DPS responds to 71 incidences from May 5 to 11

The Department of Public Safety responded to 71 incidences in the week of May 5 to 11 and made a total of nine arrests.

In the spirit of transparency and as part of its goal to build back its relationship with the community, DPS recently released its police blotter report dated May 5-11.

According to the report, within the period DPS responded to 71 reported incidences.

Specifically, of the 71 incidents, 52 were 911 service calls to the police. In addition, nine arrests were made in this week.

The police blotter details that DPS responded to one assault incident; three assault and battery incidents; three assault with a dangerous weapon incidents; two aggravated assault incidents; three nuisance incidents; three domestic violence incidents; three disturbing the peace incidents; four vandalism incidents; one criminal trespass incident; one illegal possession incident; eight burglary incidents; 15 theft incidents; and two sexual assault incidents.

Meanwhile, DPS Boating Safety responded to one distressed vessel incident, and one distressed swimmer/drowning incident.

DPS’ police blotter further states that of the nine arrests, two were arrested for sexual assault; three for domestic violence; three for nuisance; one for assault; one for assault with a dangerous weapon; and one for vandalism.

As part of DPS’ goals, it issues weekly police blotter reports that detail the number of reports made in the last week, what incidents were reported, and how many arrests were made in that week.

DPS spokesperson Fred Sato previously said the numbers provided based on the blotter reports are calls made to DPS and responses of its officers.

“All active criminal complaints are taken, then forwarded to our Criminal Investigation Bureau. All traffic-related incidents, including fatality reported crashes, are forwarded to our Highway Patrol Investigation units,” he said.
