Devil’s Playground to hit the stage on Oct 31
Touching on hard topics such as trauma, mental illness, domestic violence, and bullying, the 180 production group announced that their Halloween-themed play, Devil’s Playground, is set to hit the stage this Oct. 31 at the Victory Chapel building in Chalan Piao, across the Hopwood soccer field.
Written by young Saipan artists in their production group, the original storyline not only focuses on tough issues but also portray hope in these circumstances.
180 outreach director Alexander Depich said the group had come together to flesh out the play and, with the many events the island has been facing and even some personal trauma some 180 members have had, they incorporated everything with a Halloween flavor to make the Devil’s Playground.
After tireless preparations, they are excited to unveil the project for the public, and hope to convey that, even with all the darkness, there is always hope.
The show is free for the public, and will begin Halloween night at 7pm. Depich did warn that there will be some topics that are hard to understand for younger children, so parental guidance is recommended.
When asked why there is no cost to the public for the event, Depich said, “The team and I feel that the message of the play needs to be seen and heard, and so we’ve decided to not only invest our time, but also in a way come together and ‘pay it forward,’ hoping to make a show that’s entertaining, haunting, and yet bring hope at the end, especially for those who may be going through something similar. It may be another Halloween event on island, but for us in 180, it’s our passion to hold events like these, and we want to welcome everyone to check it out.”
