Dewey to return to Indiana

Representatives of the Indiana Allen County Sheriff’s Department have now arrived on Saipan to escort and bring fugitive Charles Lee Dewey III, alias Carter Allen Widmor, back to Indiana this week.

Assistant attorney general Heather Barcinas informed Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho during a status conference yesterday that everything is in place for Dewey’s extradition and Allen County Sheriff’s Department representatives have already arrived on Saipan to take Dewey back.

Barcinas also filed yesterday an official motion for extradition which the judge acknowledged during the hearing.

According to the motion, on Feb. 22, the prosecution received an electronic copy of Indiana Gov. Eric. J. Holcomb’s requisition request and accompanying documents that met all requirements under the CNMI extradition law.

On. Feb. 26, acting governor David M. Apatang signed a warrant of arrest directing the Office of the Attorney General, Department of Public Safety, and other law enforcement agencies to arrest, detain, extradite, and/or convey Dewey to Allen County Sheriff Troy R. Hershberger, or his designated agents.

The documents were served on Dewey on Feb. 27 at the Department of Corrections.

It was confirmed yesterday that Dewey will be extradited back to Allen County this week.

Dewey, who has been going by the alias Widmor since he fled the state of Indiana to Saipan back in 2022, was arrested last Jan. 26 at the Kagman Community Health Center where he works. Dewey allegedly admitted to officers his real name and he was immediately arrested.

He was charged with one count of fugitive from justice and was booked and detained at DOC.

According to court documents, Dewey fled Indiana where he has over six outstanding arrest warrants on multiple cases involving rape, sexual misconduct with minors, sexual battery, child solicitation, possession of child pornography, dissemination of matter harmful to a minor, and more.

The charges against Dewey date as far back as 2020.

During a status conference last Feb. 14, Dewey upheld his innocence stating he is the victim in all these.
