Duenas, Quitugua leaders in SBL Master’s League

As of Dec. 7, Marlins pitcher Ben Duenas is the pitching leader, while the Dodgers’ Richard Quituga is the batting leader in the 2023 Tan Holdings-SBL Master’s League.

The 62-year-old Duenas is still kicking it as he leads nine other pitchers with a zero ERA, zero earned runs, seven hits, three innings pitched in one game appearance. Second is Pirates pitcher Dung Tenorio with also a zero ERA and ER, three hits, in three innings and one game played. Third is also a Pirates pitcher Pete Sablan with a 1.40 ERA, one ER, four hits, in five innings and one game pitched.

The pitcher with the most strikeouts is Kevin Kapileo with 16; then Sablan with seven; Clint Quitugua at five; Bill Camacho and Dominic Hideo with four each; and Alvin Takai, Duenas, Tenorio, Greg Magofna, and Tony Flores with three a piece.

The batting leader is Richard Quitugua with a batting average of .714 from five hits in seven plate appearances. Second is the Pirates’ Pete Tomokane with a .625 average from five of eight at-bat; and third is Pirates’ Audie Maratita at .600, from six out of 10 at-bat.

The most runs scored is a nine-run tie between Derek Aguon and James Benavente; Glen Camacho and Tomokane share seven runs; and Maratita, Clint Quitugua, Mark Flores, and Sablan are tied with five each.

Maratita, Ed Manibusan, and Shine Tenorio share the most doubles with two each; while Cartfield Sablan, John Taitano, Pete Sablan, Pete Tomokane, and Richard Quitugua have one each.

Richard Quitugua also has the most triples with two, while Manibusan hit one.

Maratita has the most RBIs with nine; Bruce Norita hit seven; Richard Quitugua has six; Manibusan and Shine Tenorio have five each; and Derek Aguon and Eric Palacios hit four each.

There are currently no home runs in the league yet.

Duenas said during their game on Wednesday night that the last time he’s played was in a league last 2019. Since then, he’s been working out and keeping healthy, and when he was asked to join this league, he was all for it. He said that he’s happy and proud that he’s the current pitching leader even at the age of 62.
