Fork & Spoon is also now home for desserts
For the longest time Fork & Spoon: House of Sizzling’s claim to fame is its sizzling meals served in a hot plate.
But lately the Middle Road restaurant has become well known also for its unique desserts inspired by Filipino goodies like brazo de mercedes cuppies and yema cake and the French crème brulee.
The former is a type of rolled cake made from a sheet of soft meringue with custard filling, but Fork & Spoon added a little twist by making it into cupcakes.
Yema cake, meanwhile, is basically yema which is a sweet custard confectionery from the Philippines made into a cake.
Crème brulee, which Fork & Spoon just introduced last month, is a French dessert now exceedingly popular in the Philippines consisting of a rich custard base topped with a layer of hardened caramelized sugar.
Owner Joan Boongaling, who is in her last year in NMTech’s culinary arts program, said like the genesis of her sizzling dishes, Fork & Spoon’s desserts had its origins from the actual desserts her family served to their guests during gatherings at home.
Unlike other brazo de mercedes, yema cake, and crème brulee desserts in the market, Fork & Spoon’s versions of the old favorites are not exceedingly sweet and have maintained their home-made creaminess.
Fork & Spoon’s brazo de mercedez cuppies costs $2.99 apiece, while the yema cake and creme brulee are $3.99 each.
Currently, Fork & Spoon is offering a 10% discount on diners’ total bill for a party of six or more. The restaurant is also a member of the NMC Proa Perks program and cardholders will get unlimited iced tea and miso soup. Same goes for Take Care Insurance members.
Boongaling also said their Holiday Special packages have become so popular that only the $119.99 Set A package is left for preorder.
The aforementioned Holiday Special package includes glazed ham (8-al lbs), macaroni salad (1 lb), coffee jelly (1 lb), and dinner roll, and 50z ham sauce.
Boongaling said she stopped the preorders for the $169.99 Set B and the $249.99 Set C packages—both headlined by Fork & Spoon’s ever so popular lechon belly—because she doesn’t want to compromise the quality of their food in exchange for more profit.
Lately, Fork & Spoon has also gained a following on Tinian with Boongaling sharing that they’ve been receiving orders from the neighboring island (of course lechon belly has been one of the favorites) and they manage to ship the food items via Star Marianas Air.
