GCC hosts EDGE Conference
Guam Community College’s Center for Student Involvement and Council for Postsecondary Student Affairs hosted “The Edge” Student Conference, on Friday, March 8, in the new GCC Multipurpose Auditorium.
The event featured skill shop sessions designed to equip student participants for future academic pursuits or entry into the workforce. The skill shop sessions featured:
“Job Seeker’s Guide” by guest speakers Taylor Crisostomo, People’s Operations business partner, and Nicole Mesa, Learning & Development manager, both from Docomo Pacific. Crisostomo and Mesa coached student participants in creating exceptional resumes and discussed what employers seek in resumes.
“Wellness for the Workforce” by Lavina Camacho, director of Clinical Services, and Jenine Daminan, counselor from WestCare Pacific, focused on recognizing anxiety while looking for work and learning how to establish a healthy work-life balance.
“The Art of Interviewing” by Shawn Fernandez, GCC alumnus and former COPSA officer. Fernandez is now a People Operations Generalist at GTA Teleguam. He shared tips for preparing for a job interview that could help secure a job position.
GCC Edge organizers are grateful to all the presenters for taking time to share their insights with GCC students. The student conference concluded with team-building activities, lunch, and giveaways for the student participants.
