GRMC offers condolences in the loss of Peter R. Sgro, Jr.
DEDEDO, Guam—On behalf of the Guam Regional Medical City family of over 800 employees, GRMC offers its condolences to the Sgro family on the passing of Peter R. Sgro Jr.
Sgro was one of the founders of the Guam Healthcare and Hospital Development Foundation in 2008 with the goal of attracting an investor to build a private hospital on the island. Sgro and his local foundation members, who were all volunteers, confronted many challenges along the way, but in 2009, they helped convince The Medical City to begin exploring the opportunity to expand to Guam. In November 2011, TMC broke ground on a property in Dededo that would evolve into what is now known as GRMC Hospital, and on July 15, 2015, GRMC opened its doors to the public. During the grand opening ceremony Sgro and his foundation members were recognized for their contribution in helping make the new hospital a reality. Since then, GRMC has added more than 130 inpatient beds and many specialty care services that were never before available on Guam, greatly reducing the need for residents to travel off island for treatment.
GRMC has tremendous gratitude for Sgro’s passion for healthcare and improving the lives of the people of Guam and his legacy as a healthcare visionary will long be remembered.
“Peter, may you rest in peace,” the GRMC board said. (PR)
