Governor, lieutenant governor, GPA praised for rapid deployment of energy credit extension
GUAM—Democrat Sen. Dwayne T.D. San Nicolas commends Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero, Lt. Gov. Joshua Tenorio, and the Guam Power Authority for their swift action in implementing the extension of the Prugråman Ayuda Para I Taotao-ta Energy Credit program.
Just weeks after the extension through Bill No. 277-37 (LS), authored by Sen. William Parkinson, was signed into law, now known as Public Law 37-104, on June 5, 2024, GPA has already applied the second $100 credit to all active accounts, providing much-needed financial relief to Guam residents.
San Nicolas successfully amended the legislation, extending the power credit from three to six months.
“We are grateful to Gov. Leon Guerrero, Lt. Gov. Tenorio and our colleagues in the 37th Guam Legislature for their bipartisan efforts to extend this critical energy assistance program,” said San Nicolas. “The rapid deployment of the second $100 credit by GPA demonstrates their commitment to supporting our community during these challenging times. This is exactly the responsive and effective governance that the people of Guam deserve. By working together, we could quickly deliver real, tangible benefits to our constituents in the form of these energy credits.”
The new law extends the Prugråman Ayuda Para I Taotao-ta Energy Credit program through September 2024, providing $600 in direct aid to GPA’s residential and commercial customers. The credits will be applied in $100 increments over the next several months.
“We thank Gov. Leon Guerrero, Lt. Gov. Tenorio, and the team at GPA for their dedication to this initiative,” San Nicolas said. “Their swift action has made a meaningful difference in the lives of Guam families and businesses during this period of economic uncertainty.” (PR)
