HMS, DMS are top teams in boys softball

With the last regular season games over, Hopwood Middle School Hilitais and Dandan Middle School Tottots are the top teams heading into the championship round of the Inaugural SBL-PSS Interscholastic Boys Middle School Slow Pitch Softball League 2023-2024.

The Hilitais and Tottots both sport a 5-1 record after their wins against their opponents last Monday at the Dandan Softball Field.

HMS varsity showed no mercy to their junior varsity team as they defeated them, 13-3.

It was a noisy first inning for the varsity team, while it was a quiet one for the JV as they scored eight consecutive runs before even registering an out. The inning went on much longer after they scored their runs with more base hits and free bases given by the JV’s pitching staff.

The JV team’s reply was just one run from their leadoff batter Joshua Lizama. With that one run, the varsity team had a commanding eight-run lead, and it made their pitcher Jesus William’s job a much easier one.

In the end, the varsity team had 18 hits and no strikeouts, while the JV team had only three hits and racked up four K’s.

DMS also discarded winless Chacha Ocean View Middle School Lancherus via a blowout, 14-7.

The Lancherus put up a better fight in their game as they scored four in the first inning from back-to-back-to-back runs by their first four batters. The Tottots were down by a run, 3-4 heading into the second inning, but flew into the lead after scoring five runs.

The Tottots’ Jason Arriola, Jarell Herman, Leandro Castaneda, Rodney Tomei, and Hunter Dela Cruz scored consecutive hits from RBI base hits. At this time, the Lancherus tried to make a comeback in the fourth inning but scored only two runs for a 6-8 DMS lead.

DMS then went ham and scored six more runs by the sixth inning. COVMS could not catch up as they scored just one more from Aiden Reyes.

In other results that day, Tanapag Middle School edged Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, 9-4, and Mount Carmel School defeated FMS, 13-6.

In the standings behind HMS and DMS are TMS and MCS who are deadlocked at 4-2; FMS is at 2-4; while HMS JV is 1-5, and COVMS are winless with six losses.Starting this afternoon, the teams will take the Capital Hill Softball Field at the start of the championship tourney.

The finals is set for Saturday, Jan. 13, also at the Capital Hill Softball Field.
