HSEM closely monitoring Invest 95W
The CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is closely monitoring the developing tropical disturbance identified by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center as Invest 95W.
According to the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, Invest 95W will pass through the region near, or over, Guam as a tropical depression, sometime this afternoon to tonight. No tropical storm or typhoon watches or warnings are issued for the CNMI. According to the NWS, it is nearly certain that Invest 95W will not be a typhoon when it passes through the Marianas. Nor will it be a tropical storm, at this point. The CNMI will likely see stronger winds with the passage of this system.
A flood watch is in effect for the potential of 4 to 8 inches of rain. This is likely to be a multi-day rain event with possible moderate to heavy showers during the passage of Invest 95W through the Marianas, followed by a wet monsoon pattern for the last half of the week. Localized flooding is possible in low-lying and poor drainage areas; flash flooding could also be possible in other areas.
A small craft advisory is in effect for the CNMI. Winds and seas are expected to become hazardous to small crafts on the coastal waters as Invest 95W passes through the region.
The CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management recommends that the community take standard preparedness precautions to ensure the safety of their families and property.
