Hazardous marine conditions expected thru most of the week
The National Weather Service in Guam has reported that the Marianas is expected to see a trade-wind surge throughout most of this week which will keep marine conditions hazardous.
According to NWS’ weekly regional weather outlook, a trade-wind surge expected to last throughout most of this week will keep marine conditions hazardous for small craft and will cause a high risk of rip currents along east facing reefs through at least Thursday.
“Breezy to strong trade-winds will continue to move across Guam and the CNMI this week. This will maintain hazardous marine conditions for small craft and keep the risk of rip currents high along east facing reefs through at least Thursday,” said the report.
“Winds across most of Micronesia will be moderate to fresh, 15-20 kt, while the stronger trade-winds, 20-25 kt, remain to the north of 10N, between the Marianas and Wake Island. Trade-wind swell and wind waves of 5-8 feet will continue across the region, especially around the Marianas due to stronger winds. Islands farther north could see combined seas near nine feet,” NWS added.
As for the rest of Micronesia, NWS said to expect periods of showers and isolated thunderstorms associated with trade-wind convergence across the region, while stronger winds look to remain north of 10N, near the Marianas and Wake Island.
“For Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae, and the Marshall Islands, trade-wind convergence is generating showers and isolated thunderstorms across most of the region. The western extent of this convergence will occasionally push into Yap and Palau, and will bring periods of scattered showers and a few thunderstorms,” said the report.
