Humanities Council launches founding father’s memoir ‘Legacy of a Political Union’
Northern Marianas Humanities Council will distribute a new book, “Legacy of a Political Union, “authored by chief Covenant negotiator Edward DLG Pangelinan to the general public during a book launch event on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library.
The event will feature remarks by Pangelinan’s family, friends, and colleagues and access to digital copies of his personal collection of artifacts from his life and work as the chairman of the Marianas Political Status Commission and CNMI resident representative to the U.S. from 1978 to 1984.
“Mr. Pangelinan’s leadership in negotiating the terms of our U.S. Commonwealth status and subsequent work to implement the terms of our Covenant agreement with the U.S. lay the foundations for our collective actions toward self-determination and self-government as a people,” said Council executive director Leo Pangelinan. “I am honored that he chose our Council to publish his insights into our political history and that his book will preserve his unique perspectives and experiences for posterity.”
A growing collection of his working papers, reports, photos, and personal artifacts are now available for public viewing on the council’s Digital Archives.
Limited print copies of “Legacy of a Political Union” will be distributed free to audiences during the book launch. For additional access, a free e-copy of the book is available for download at http://nmhcouncil.org/books/legacy.
