JKPL 5K Fun Run/Walk this Saturday

The 2024 Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library 5K Community Fun Run/Walk is set for tomorrow, April 13, at 5pm.

The starting line is at the Garapan Public Market back parking lot at the Garapan Fishing Base, then to Quarter Master Road and back.

JKPL in a press release said, “Lace up your running/walking shoes and wear your best literary character costume for a great cause! Celebrate School Library Month and National Library Week by signing up for the 3rd Annual Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library 5K Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, April 13, 2024.”

“All proceeds will go to the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library’s 2024 Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, ensuring that children in our community have access to great books and educational activities,” said JKPL’s press release.

The event is free for children 12 years old and below. There will be no refunds. Please note, $10 is not inclusive of the processing fee from Race Roster. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

For added fun, join the Literary Character Costume Contest for a chance to win $150.

Registration for the Literary Character Costume Contest is on the same day from 3pm to 4:45pm. The contest is open only to race/walk participants. All minor participants of the costume contest must be accompanied by a participating parent/guardian of the race/walk. Library card holders preferred.

In addition to the fun, a Zumba pre-warm-up with Saipan Unity Lions Club with Zin Abby Whang and an auction for BIB#001 will take place before the run/walk.

Also in the press release, it said, “We welcome and encourage businesses to please consider donating Educational Tax Credit. Pursuant to NMI Public Law 15-120, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is able to receive cash contributions under Educational Tax Credit (ETC). Please make checks payable to: CNMI Treasury. For MUNIS payments, to the Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library MUNIS Vendor ID#100404.”

Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said of the event, “Run Saipan will always be a proud partner of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. This is our third year supporting them with a 5K fundraiser for the Friends of the Joeten Kiyu. I hope to see everyone this Saturday to support not only National Library Week but also the JKPL. I hope to see at least all librarians across the [Public School System] at the start line this weekend.”
