Krishnan conquers field in July tourney
Das Krishnan remained cool and collected amidst the scorching hot weather enroute to winning the Fil-Taga Golfers Association’s July tournament held last July 22 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort east course.
The 69-year-old Banquet and Events director at Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan shot a net score of 72 after dropping twin 41s in the front and back nine for a gross score of 82.
The 10-handicapper said he was just trying to survive last Sunday due to the less-than-ideal conditions during the July tourney.
“The weather was hot and windy and the course was well maintained but the green unpredictable with different grass.”
He said his best hole was the par-4 No. 13 par where his second shot using a 5-iron on the green made birdie.
“It just blew my mind and it was awesome!”
As for his worst hole, Krishnan said it was No. 17. “My drive from the tee box was bad and went into the sand bunker. I then hit a bad shot from the bunker and had to two-putt for double bogey. It hurt me trying to hold the fort.”
He then dedicated his July tourney win to his loving wife Alice Law. “Because she has no questions whenever I go golfing on the weekend. She just supports me 99%.”
Joining Krishnan in the Top 3 were Ronnie Santos with his net 72, but lost to Krishnan on a scorecard tiebreak, and Dan Ganacias, who beat Adony Matutino on another scorecard tiebreak, with his net 73.
A total of 13 Fil-Taga members took part in the July tourney and they are as follows, with their net scores in parenthesis: Freddie Cataluna (74), Ed Varias (76), Ruben Avendano (77), Romy Cayetano (78), Mike Cruz (79), Jess Yumul (80), Antonio Tabnornil (81), Jhun Cayetano (82), and Felix Ano (gross 107)
In the par 3 competition, Santos, Matutino, and Yumul took the plum, with no takers on hole No. 11.
