Lady Blue Jays strike first in championship series, 7-4
The Lady Blue Jays struck first in the best-of-3 championship series of the 2024 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association league women’s division on a blazing hot Sunday at the Dandan Softball Field.
The Lady Blue Jays blasted their formidable foe, BDE, 7-4, for a one-win lead in the series.
While BDE scored first and put up two runs at the top of the first, the Lady Blue Jays tied it up quickly in the second inning for a 2-2 game.
Angel Deleon Guerrero, the Lady Blue Jays’ ace, brought her A game and went on to shut down BDE’s lineup from the second to the fourth. Only one BDE batter got a hit in the third inning—Keina Rogopes—but the rest either struck out or grounded out.
Deleon Guerrero also had a robust defense behind her that allowed her to bring down BDE, until the fifth inning when BDE’s Maribel Igitol got on base and later scored. Before that, the Lady Blue Jays’ Carey Demapan, Christy Aldan, Rayna Deleon Guerrero, and Alannah Sablan all scored to lead, 5-2. With Igitol’s run, it became a 5-3 game.
However, Angel Deleon Guerrero continued to hold down BDE’s bats and the only other run scored in the seventh by Kona Tudela. Rayna and Keolani Rios scored a run each in the fifth and sixth, and with that, the game ended, 7-4.
Catch the action this Sunday, April 28, for Game 2 at 12pm, and if needed, Game 3 at 3pm.

Lady Blue Jays’ third basewoman stretches to tag a BDE base runner but misses by a centimeter as she swerves to avoid it during the 2024 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association league women’s division championship series Game 1 on a blazing hot Sunday at the Dandan Softball Field.
