Lydia Tan tops CWGA tourney
Lydia Tan won the CNMI Women’s Golf Association monthly tournament last Saturday at the LaoLao Golf & Resort west course.
Tan came back strong after a tough time at the front nine. But Tan came back in the back nine to best seven other players with gross score of 90, handicap of 20, and a net score of 70.
Second place went to Sae Hee Kim with gross score of 84, handicap of 10, and a net score of 74. Third place was Janet Torres with a gross score of 94, handicap of 15, and net score of 79.
When asked how the tournament went, Tan said the “tournament always is hard and tough mentally. Nervousness will come naturally.” Even with that, Tan made a great comeback after faltering in the front nine and was surprised she won because “in the group, there [are] strong and seasoned tournament players. “
She added that she didn’t really have a bad hole, “but my first nine, 3-4 holes I have 3 putts. If not, my score could have been even better.”
“My best hole is hole No. 12 as I had a birdie. From that hole onwards, I [felt] my momentum and timing [was] good. My shot game was on a roll. I’m always a boogie score player,” she said.
The club continues to look for new members as the new season continues. For those interested in becoming a member of CWGA or for more information, contact CWGA president Yuko Togawa at 287-9856, vice president Lorraine Babauta at 287-0621, or treasurer Lou Kim at 783-7317.
