MHS, ACS, BSS top boys divisions of Gecko 5000
Marianas High School, Agape Christian School, and Brilliant Star School topped the boys divisions of the PSS/NMA All Schools Cross Country 2023-2024 third qualifier—the Gecko 5000 at the Banzai Cliff last Saturday morning
MHS and ACS both had 19 points in the high school boys division, while Mount Carmel School was next with 69 points in the 3-mile race.
In the middle school boys division, ACS was first with 18 points; SIS came second with 49 points; and third was ChaCha Ocean View Middle School with 57 points in the 2-mile race.
Brilliant Star School took the elementary school division with 38 points; and Tinian Elementary School and SIS both had 71 points in the 1-mile race.
In the individual high school boys standings, MHS’ Michael Miller was the fastest with a time of 18:56; second was ACS’ Jireh Wang with 20:04; and MHS’ Pony Tang came in third with a time of 20:21.
Quido Jambor from SIS clocked in at 12:40 for first place in the middle school boys standings; and ACS’ Raffy Cai and Daniel Yang came in at 12:44 and 12:49 respectively.
For the elementary school boys individual standings, SIS’ Gabriel Walsh was first at 7:15; second place went to Orion Garde from Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School with 7:20; and a close third went to SIS’ Ezra West at 7:21.
In celebration of Saipan International School’s 30th anniversary, all participants received commemorative medals for their efforts.
SIS headmaster Dr. Ron Snyder said that he’s heard from several coaches how happy the students were in receiving the medals. He added that the Gecko 5000 is their first community event to celebrate and is overwhelmed with the response.
The fourth and last qualifier is the Kagman High School Invitational at ChaCha Ocean View Middle School on Saturday, Oct. 7; and the championship is set for Oct. 14 at the Saipan Country Club at Saipan Vegas.
