MHS boys win 2 straight v-ball games

Defending champions Marianas High School Dolphins are off to a roaring start with two straight wins in the NMIVA-Public School System Boys High School Volleyball League 2023-2024 at the MHS Gymnasium.

The Dolphins etched their first win of the season against the Grace Christian Academy Eagles and won in twin sets, 21-10, 21-10, last April 9. MHS’ caliber of play, despite a somewhat new team was still topnotch and was evident that they put in the work during the offseason.

It was a swift matchup for their first game of the season and they carried their momentum into their second game last Thursday.

Although last season’s runner-up, Agape Christian School Torchbearers became once again a formidable opponent in their game, the Dolphins swam away with their second victory in as many games in three tough sets, 21-18, 21-23, 15-5.

In the Dolphins roster are Jerome Manzon, Nehemiah Coleman, Yeshaiah Coleman, Kyle Sang Hyun Moon, Mokyang Kim, Juruel Magtalas, Lowell Lumauag, and K.C. Nuyles.

GCA’s roster includes Akira Ota, Briston Jones, Tristan Raho, Tyran Joe Saures, Julian Taitano, Jiahao Yang, Vidal Camacho, Jiahang Wu, Ayden Yumul, Jerry Zhao, Tom Luo, Maxiumus Taitano, and Brycen Raymundo.

ACS is made up of John Chen, Caleb Cui, Michael Ma, Peter Peng, Jacob Wang, Stanley Zhang, David Zhao, Aaron Zheng, and Samuel Zhu.

Last Thursday’s other results saw Saipan International School defeat Mount Carmel School, 21-11, 21-14; GCA take down Kagman High School, 21-15, 25-23; SIS II rout MCS II, 22-20, 21-11; MHS III win two close sets against KHS II, 21-19, 22-20; and MHS II pummeled Agape Christian School II, 21-3, 21-18.

In other results last April 9, KHS II beat MCS II, 21-18, 22-20; MHS II defeated sister team MHS III, 21-16, 21-13; Saipan Southern High School II won in three tough sets against ACS II, 17-21, 21-16; 15-9; MCS also won in an extra set against KHS, 18-21, 21-16; 15-13; and SSHS held on to win against ACS, 21-18, 18-21, 15-9.

The season will run through May, with the championship series set for May 9, 10, and 11.
