MHS principal addresses rumors

Marianas High School principal Jonathan Aguon addressed rumors of alleged misconduct involving a faculty member in an email to parents yesterday evening.

Aguon said the MHS administration is aware of the rumors and takes “such matters very seriously, and the safety and well-being of our students are our top priorities.”

This is a developing story and no further details were released, but social media posts yesterday allege that the MHS teacher had “inappropriate conduct” with a student. There was no immediate word on the identity of the MHS teacher who is allegedly involved.

In his email message to parents, Aguon assures that the “appropriate authorities” have been contacted and that “additionally, appropriate administrative actions are being taken to address the matter. We understand the concerns and anxieties that such rumors can generate, and we want to emphasize our commitment to ensuring a safe learning environment for our students. Concurrently, we are focused on safeguarding our students to maintain uninterrupted access to their education and support their continued academic progress.”

He said the school is dedicated to providing a safe learning environment and is working to maintain the trust and integrity of the community.

He requests the community’s understanding and support and encourages everyone to seek support and avoid rumor-spreading, “as it can have negative effects on those directly involved and our entire school community.”

“We seek the understanding of the community, keeping in mind that the spread of rumors and misinformation can have negative consequences, especially for any student impacted in such cases,” said Aguon

At press time, Education Commissioner Dr. Lawrence Camacho has not replied to inquiries by Saipan Tribune.
