MP United Pink sinks Paire, 3-2
MP United Football Club Pink took down Paire FC in a close 3-2 matchup in the 2024 Fall Dove Women’s League at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville last Wednesday.
The game, as attested by the final score, was marked by an explosive first half, and a tense defensive latter half of the match.
The pink team broke the ice first as they wasted no time and got down to business with a goal by Jenisha Dubrall in the fourth minute. This set the tone for MP United for an aggressive opening half, as Paire’s Tsubakiko Joab knotted it all up, 1-1, in the 17th minute.
But energized and unfazed by the equalizer, MP United came back even stronger after much back-and-forth that amounted to naught. It was in the 26th minute when MP United’s Moriah Sablan found herself in scoring position. She seized control of the moment, and fired into the net to reclaim the lead for them, 2-1.
MP United barely had time to celebrate and Paire barely had time to regroup before MP United’s next breakthrough. Just two minutes later, Pia Ngewakl made her mark and launched the team’s third goal for a lead that had more breathing room, 3-1.
Both teams then could not get the better of the other for the rest of the first half. In the second half, MP United’s defense tightened around the pitch like an iron fist, but Paire’s Rizza Relucio managed to squeeze her way into MP United’s goal to get within one, 2-3, in the 58th.
This sparked the hope for a late comeback, but MP United’s defense that faltered momentarily, picked themselves up again and denied Paire entry until the final whistle.
