Marlins, Reds notch wins in Master’s League
The Marlins and Reds were graced with clear evening skies which led to a clear path to victory last Wednesday and Tuesday in the 2023 Tan Holdings-SBL Master’s League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
The Marlins and the Spartans had an all-out slugfest that began in the first inning and lasted throughout with the Marlins coming out on top, 20-17.
It was an 11-11 tie at the end of the third inning, when Marlins pitching was finally able to shut down the Spartans until the sixth and seventh inning. The Marlins offense then went to work and was able to bring in six runs in the fourth to gain a 17-11 advantage.
Two more runs came by way of Marlins leadoff batter Walter Macaranas and Cartfield Sablan for an even bigger 19-11 lead in the sixth inning. The Spartans only put up one at the bottom of the inning, as the Marlins added one more in their last at-bat for a 20-12 game.
The Spartans’ lumber woke up from their slumber a little too late as only five runs scored. It wasn’t enough to close the gap the Marlins had made and settled for their third loss of the season.
The Marlins’ Sablan led the team with three hits, three RBIs, four runs, and two triples; and was complemented by Ton Benavente’s two hits, two runs, and three RBIs. Meanwhile, the Spartans’ Ton Pangelinan went four for six at-bat, with four RBIs, and two doubles.
The Marlins secured their first win out of three losses, while the Spartans have yet to win a game.
In the Reds vs. Blue Jays game, the Reds won, 15-9.
Twelve runs were made by the Reds by the third inning while the Blue Jays only scored three. The Blue Jays would end up scoring eight more as the Reds pummeled Blue Jays pitching some more and scored three for a six-run deficit.
