Meet Sandy, the newest member of the PIC family

TUMON, Guam—There’s a new huggable, feathery friend at the Pacific Islands Club. The resort welcomed its newest mascot, Sandy, who hatched in time for spring! Sandy, a Sihek or Guam Kingfisher, is the newest member of the PIC family and is sister to the world-famous Siheky, who has been bringing smiles to PIC guests since 2002.

“Our PIC family is growing! Much like our goal of introducing Siheky as a learning and interactive experience at PIC, Sandy’s debut will help to enhance the overall PIC guest experience by adding a sense of diversity and family fun,” said Ben Ferguson, general manager of PIC Guam.

PIC welcomed the addition of Sandy to better promote inclusion, cultural diversity, and preservation as part of its brand expansion to appeal to a larger audience while also honoring rich cultural heritage and unique wildlife. PIC is known as a family-friendly resort and tropical playground for kids of all ages. Together, the brother-sister duo will offer guests opportunities to learn more about the Sihek bird and the importance of close familial bonds.

Ferguson added, “Having Siheky and Sandy together at PIC further reinforces our goal of being the ideal vacation destination for families with children and where friendships and memories can be made. We believe that Sandy will be right at home here at PIC. We’re excited to announce that many fun adventures await our guests.”

PIC introduced its Siheky mascot as part of its commitment to promote awareness of the nearly extinct Kingfisher and support conservation efforts to protect region’s unique ecosystem.

Sandy is known for her gentle and caring nature, especially toward her brother and PIC family. As Siheky’s sister, she has the same traits of friendliness and curiosity with an innate sense of adventure. Her unique personality is a perfect mix of playfulness, curiosity, and mischief, which promises guests new and exciting experiences at PIC.

Guests staying at PIC Guam will have plenty of opportunities to engage with Sandy and Siheky with daily meetups at 9am in the lower lobby, and additional sessions at 3:30pm and 5pm in the main lobby. As an extra dose of excitement, Sandy and Siheky will also have daily meetups at PIC Saipan. Sandy and Siheky also participate throughout the resorts’ interactive kids’ programs—the PIC Kids Club, Fun Card program, and Let’s Speak English program. Guests are also welcome to swing by Sandy’s Yum Yum Shack for an array of delectable treats including taiyaki, takoyaki, and other mouthwatering delights available at PIC Guam. With Sandy’s arrival, PIC is offering special promotions for the month of March and in honor of Mes Chamoru.
