Miyako records 2nd Power Puff win

Miyako Celis flexed her motocross muscled anew by winning the Power Puff Girls Class in the May 2024 “MOTO IV” Points Race Series last Sunday at the Cowtown Race Park in Marpi.

Aboard her trusty Yamaha YZ125, the 15-year-old Marianas High School student won both heats of the Marianas Racing Association competition for a perfect 50 points. She was followed by the 42 points of Kesiil Camacho and the 22 points of Hiromi Sasamoto.

“The course was dry, hot, and dusty but it was fun as I like riding in the dust. It was really hot weather but just the right weather to be on the track. It was mostly enjoying every moment and having fun,” said the daughter of David Celis and Shoko Celis.

With the aforementioned second Power Puff Girls win under her belt, Celis’ next plan is to ride more hours and train with her dad and the rest of the Trench Tech Racing Team.

“Watching my dad racing made me want to give it a try and it became one of my main sports. I dedicate this win to my dad and mom for always supporting me and my Trench Tech Racing Team. I also want to thank Joeten Motors Yamaha (Ray ‘Boss’ Alvarez), 4ever CNMI, Rep. John Paul Sablan, Speaker Edmund Villagomez, Ericco Racing Team, and Marianas Racing Association for another fun weekend of racing,” she said.

In the Women’s Class, Mari Alvarez proved her win in April wasn’t a fluke by topping the May race with 47 points—winning the first heat. Billie Inabo Pangelinan was second with her 43 points after a third-place finish in Heat 1 negated her first-place finish in Heat 2. Merissa Rasa was third with 42 points.
