Nick Sablan Jr. hits hole-in-one in Chamber golf tourney
Nick Sablan Jr. had luck on his side in the two-person scramble as he hit a hole-in-one during the Saipan Chamber of Commerce 15th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort last Saturday.
With one swing of the club, Sablan teed off from lucky hole No. 13 and 180 yards later, landed the ball that bagged him the prize of $10,000 cash and a 2024 Nissan Versa SR from Joeten Motors Co.
Sablan said of his hole-in-one win, “Pure luck is what I thought of when getting the hole-in-one. Again, being partnered with my father, made it even more amazing.”
On how he felt, he said, “the feeling was the best feeling any human being could ever have.”
Sablan added, “We played from the tips on this tourney, when I usually use a 6-iron on this hole. I pulled out a 4-iron instead so I could take an easy swing with the club’s maximum output. From there, the whole shot aligned and the best thing happened.”
As for the prizes he won, he said, “The prizes are awesome! A car and a nice sum of money never made anyone mad.”
He then thanked all the sponsors and players of the tournament, especially Patrick Guerrero, Marco Peter, his dad, Nick Sablan Sr., and putters coming for his team.
For the optional play, Dennis Cruz was the closest at 4 feet and 2 inches on hole No. 3; Paul Reyes was 7 feet and 2 inches on hole No. 13; Amier Younis was 8 feet on No. 7; and the most accurate drive was Anthony Tomokane at 9 inches on hole No. 12.
Proceeds of the event goes toward the annual Chamber educational and trade scholarship program.
