Palacios and Apatang extend condolences to family of late DPS chief

The administration of Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of the late former commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, Robert A. Guerrero, on his untimely passing.

“Commissioner Guerrero was a leadership figure whose legacy of public service and commitment to the people of the Commonwealth are gratefully acknowledged,” Palacios and Apatang said in a statement.

They added that during his tenure with the CNMI government, Guerrero worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of the CNMI community. His many years of dedicated service were a testament to his passion for public safety and his unwavering dedication to the betterment of our islands.

“We extend our special condolences to his wife, Terry, and his children. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate these challenging times.”

Guerrero reportedly passed away due to health complications last week. He was survived by his wife and children.

Guerrero served as DPS commissioner from 2016 until 2022.

Former governor Ralph DLG Torres, whose administration Guerrero served under, stated that he is saddened by the loss of another CNMI leader.

“Upon learning of the passing of Mr. Robert Guerrero, I extend my condolences to his wife, Terry, and his children. His loss fills us with deep sadness. Mr. Guerrero dedicated eight years to serving our Commonwealth and its citizens as the commissioner of the Department of Public Safety. He championed police officers’ benefits, salaries, and improved workplace conditions, uplifting those in the department and reinforcing the vital support needed for our frontline protectors,” he said.

Torres stated despite the struggle of handling a department like DPS, Guerrero was a good leader.

“The Department of Public Safety is one of the most challenging departments, and I was fortunate to have him lead during my time in office. As we reflect on Mr. Guerrero’s significant contributions, we remember him not just as a commissioner but as a friend and a devoted public servant committed to making our Commonwealth a safer place for all,” he said.
