Palacios in Japan for int’l conference
Gov. Arnold I. Palacios left the CNMI last Monday to attend an international conference in Tokyo, Japan hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang has been designated acting governor as Palacios will be out of the Commonwealth from Monday to Friday.
At the conference, leaders of major cities from around the globe will be discussing initiatives and future prospects for solving challenges that are faced by large and small cities.
According to the Office of the Governor yesterday, the conference will be held at the City Leaders Program during the Sustainable High City Tech Tokyo 2024 Summit.
Palacios will engage in face-to-face meetings with Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike this Thursday about sustainability issues, to encourage more investments from Japan, and to identify other opportunities for partnership between Tokyo and the CNMI.
Koike invited Palacios to attend the conference. This is the first time that CNMI is invited to this international conference in Tokyo.
At the conference, Palacios will also be presenting alongside other leaders and will be part of a panel on environmental sustainability.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office funded the governor’s travel.
While in Japan, Palacios is also hosting the Marianas Visitors Authority-led Marianas Seminar which brings together representatives from tour agencies, airlines, and other tourism industry organizations to promote the CNMI as a destination.
MVA managing director Christopher Concepcion and MVA board member Sachiko Gerrard accompanied the governor in the events.
