Pirates only undefeated team in SBL Masters League

The Pirates plundered their way to an undefeated season so far after their most recent conquest of the Dodgers last Thursday in the 2023 Tan Holdings-SBL Masters League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

After their 12-1 win against the Dodgers, the Pirates are at a league leading, 4-0, while the Dodgers are in the middle of the pack with a 2-2 record.

It was a run-mercy ruled game played in just five innings after an underwhelming performance by the Dodgers, with a stark contrast by the Pirates.

The Dodgers’ only run—and blemish by Pirates pitcher Pete Sablan—was made in the fourth inning after Eddie Manibusan scored off an RBI single by Glenn Camacho.

The Pirates’ offense was golden throughout as they brought in the bounty early with a four-run first inning that scored leadoff batter Vinnie Sablan, Jerome Delos Santos, Pete Tomokane, and Eric Palacios.

Three more runs came in the second inning by way of Derek Sasamoto, Sablan, and Delos Santos, plus one more in the third for an 8-0 lead.

The Pirates ran away with runs they looted from Dodgers pitching staff Greg Magofna and Clint Quitugua. They added four more in the bag in the last inning as Sasamoto, Ben Tagabuel, Delos Santos, and Tomokane made it 12-1, which was more than enough to seal the deal for their fourth win.

In the standings after the Pirates are the Reds with a 2-1 record; Blue Jays are at an even 2-2; the Marlins are 1-3; and the Spartans have yet to win with three losses.
