Police rummage through landfill in search of evidence

Police officers rummaged through piles of trash at the Marpi Landfill throughout last week in search of evidence believed to be linked to the double homicide case at a Finasisu residence earlier this month.

Saipan Tribune visited the Marpi Landfill last Friday and learned that about 10 to 15 police officers have been rummaging through the garbage from Monday to Thursday in search of evidence.

Saipan Tribune learned that the evidence police were looking for could be involved in the brutal killing of Liu Shuping and Wang Jingdong.

It remains unclear if the police were able to locate anything or what exactly they were looking for.

The Department of Public Safety has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

According to a previous DPS news release, DPS dispatch received on Jan. 4 at around 10:46am an injured person(s) report at the former Ladera Building along Tun Joaquin Doi Road in Finasisu, which used to house a school.

The individual who made the call, a colleague of Liu, said she came to check on Liu as she did not make it to the school where they teach.

The caller immediately sought help in calling police due to language barrier because she said she panicked when she saw a trail of blood leading to the couple’s bedroom when she looked through one of the buildings’ windows.

Officers arrived at the Ladera Building at approximately 11:02am and discovered an unresponsive Wang and Liu. Both victims were covered in blood while Wang was reportedly lying in a pool of it.

The two were immediately rushed to the Commonwealth Health Center where Wang was pronounced dead, having succumbed to his injuries.

Liu, after fighting for her life for over two days, succumbed to her injuries.

Prior to the murders, the couple had reported a break-in but police have not disclosed what became of that. Police did disclose that they are looking at the break-in as a possible angle in the murders.

DPS continues to investigate the incident.

Anyone who may have any information, no matter how small, are encouraged to call police to report it.
