‘RB’ meets with Precinct 5 businesses

Saipan Ramon “RB” B. Camacho continued his series of dialogues with the island businesses with Precinct 5 businesses leaders meeting with him at the conference room of Saipan Mayor’s Office last Thursday.

The meeting was attended by Josephine Aguon of Te’s Fish Market, Il Sik Yeoh of Laolao Bay Golf & Resort, and Alvin Palacios of Linglin Store.

“This is the last precinct in the business community I would be meeting. What I’m doing as mayor is getting all the business community to work with me and focus on three programs—promote a safe community, safe village, and a clean island,” he said.

Camacho also emphasized the promotion of safe communities through business partnerships as he seeks input from businesses regarding their concerns and challenges. He also aims to identify and address regulatory barriers that hinder business growth and community well-being.

The revival of the Neighborhood Watch, Adopt-a-Place Program, and sports programs for the youth were also among the topics discussed.

Camacho then invited everyone to join Hannam Supermaket’s Adopt-A-Place ceremony on Oct. 4 at the Koblerville Basketball Court.

Precinct 5, which encompasses San Vicente Village up to Kagman Village, is the last business community that the mayor held a meeting with. Camacho started this year with religious groups, followed by ethnic groups, and then business communities from precincts 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Meanwhile, Te’s Fish Market’s Aguon shared that her store was also almost victimized by two individuals using fake checks.

She said last Wednesday afternoon, between 1:30pm and 2pm, one of her staff told her that a customer placed an order by phone and asked for the manager’s WhatsApp number to send a check payment. The customer ordered $205 worth of items and was supposed to pay using a $440 check under a certain Victoria Reyes and the customer wanted the difference to be returned.

“One of my workers came to me, she goes, ‘can you give me your telephone number, so this girl’s gonna WhatsApp you the check?’ So, before I opened my WhatsApp, she told me that this girl has a $205 order and the check is $440, and then she told me you need to give her back the change, and I said, ‘no we don’t do that’…So, when I opened my WhatsApp, I saw the check and I knew instantly, right when I saw the check that something’s wrong,” said Aguon.

Aguon then called the customer and the customer said that she was going to work at 2pm, but when she (Aguon) insisted that the customer go to the bank, the customer hung up. All the WhatsApp messages were then deleted by the customer.
