Rape charges against Dewey dismissed
The rape charges filed against Charles Lee Dewey III, also known as Carter Widmor while he was hiding out in Saipan, were dismissed pursuant to a plea agreement.
Dewey, a man who faced multiple charges including rape and sexual misconduct of a minor, pleaded guilty over the weekend to multiple felony counts before an Allen County judge pursuant to a plea agreement.
Based on the plea agreement, Dewey agreed to plead guilty to multiple felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, child solicitation, possession of child pornography, dissemination of matter harmful to minors, and residential entry.
In exchange for his guilty plea, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office has agreed to drop two counts of rape filed against Dewey.
Aside from pleading guilty, Dewey has also agreed to pay back the cost of extradition which totaled $31,660.
After the change of plea hearing last week, the Allen Superior Court went on to sentence Dewey for the crimes he pleaded guilty to.
For the sex crimes he committed against minors, the court sentenced Dewey to an imprisonment term of 14 years.
The court made most of Dewey’s sentences concurrent, which means they will be served at the same time, but combined 12 years and a consecutive two-year sentence to come up with 14 years.
According to news outlets, Dewey was arrested in December 2020 for raping a 14-year-old girl. She appeared in court during the change of plea and sentencing hearing last Friday with her parents.
The victim’s father told the court that his daughter was active in sports until she was raped in Dewey’s car, threatened with a firearm and intimidated with death through numerous phone calls and texts if she talked about it.
Dewey, for his part, continued to uphold his innocence, still claiming he was wronged and that he never broke into the victim’s home.
