Reds outscore Spartans, 21-1

With sluggers back to the diamond from the holidays, the Reds didn’t waste any time and outscored the Spartans, 21-1, Wednesday night in the continuation of the 2023 Tan Holdings-SBL Master’s League.

The lone run by the Spartans was made in the first inning by lead-off batter, Isaac Aguon. From there, Reds pitcher Joe Kapileo proceeded to shut down their lineup.

Only three more hits were made by Spartans’ Aguon, Mike Guerrero, and J.J. Teigita, but they were left stranded as Kapileo went on to strike out and induce ground balls to the rest of the Spartans’ batters.

The Reds’ offense, on the other hand, was the total opposite of the Spartans as they brought in 14 runs by just the second inning.

The game ended early in the third inning via mercy rule as the Spartans could not catch up to the huge Reds lead. The Reds went out with a bang as they scored eight more runs for a 21-1 final.

The Reds’ Jason Reyes was on fire as he led the team with three hits from three at-bats, scoring three runs, and three RBIs, plus hitting a triple. Hector Efraim then went two for two at-bats, scored two runs, drove in two RBIs, and hit a double. Dennis Cruz joined in the fray with two out of four at-bats, three runs, two hits, one RBI, and a triple.

After this win, the Reds pushed themselves to the win column at 3-2 with the Dodgers. The Pirates are still the team to beat with an undefeated 5-0 record; the Blue Jays and Marlins are at 2-3; and the Spartans have yet to win with five losses.
