SIS, MCS win 2 v-ball games in a row

Saipan International School Geckos and Mount Carmel School Knights are on a roll as they’ve won their second straight game in the NMIVA-PSS Interscholastic Boys Middle School Volleyball League 2023-2024.

Like their first game, the Geckos fought tooth and nail and won in three tough sets against the Grace Christian Academy Eagles, while the Knights breezed past Chacha Ocean View Middle School Lancherus in two sets last Thursday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

The Geckos’ rotation of Theo Joab, Springer, Jude Rayphand, Kanoa Owens, William Guo, Landon Pudney, and Jin Hyun Felix Choi snatched up the first set easily, 21-8. The Eagles then regrouped in the second set and fired point after point, and escaped with the win by three points, 21-18. In the deciding third set, the Geckos found the rhythm they had in the first set, and buried the Eagles, 15-9.

In the Knights game against the Lancherus, the Knights’ rotation of Jayson Tagabuel, Arstin Tagabuel, Do Geon Kim, Si Woo Lee, Juhwan Hyun, Francisco Maratita, Dylan Niric, Donald Tagabuel, Leonmar Regalado, Joey Mostales, Gonshiro Sasamoto, Daniel Kang, Jeremy Terlaje, Ryan Choi, and Franko Tudela, made light work of the first set and won without much retaliation, 21-7.

The Knights then finished the job in the second set, 21-16, and took their second win of the season.

In other results, Tanapag Middle School swam past Saipan Community School, 21-13, 21-17; Hopwood Middle School beat SIS II, 21-12, 21-17; Francisco M. Sablan Middle School outlasted Dandan Middle School in three sets, 20-22, 21-19, 15-6; and TMS II pummeled COVMS II, 21-18, 21-9.

The Geckos and Knights currently lead the varsity standings with their two wins each, followed by a win each by COVMS, Agape Christian School, HMS, TMS, and FMS.
