SIS undertakes mandated reporter training from DYS

Saipan International School announces the successful completion of a collaborative training initiative with the Division of Youth Services aimed at enhancing student safety and support within the community. The training, an important component of the school’s new Student Safety and Support Plan, took place on April 19, 2024.

The training session equipped mandated reporters with essential tools and insights necessary for identifying and responding to signs of distress or abuse among students. By fostering a proactive approach to safeguarding the well-being of students, this initiative underscores the school’s commitment to creating a secure and nurturing learning environment.

“We are pleased to have collaborated with DYS on this training initiative,” commented Angela Taflinger, counselor of Saipan International School. “By empowering mandated reporters with the knowledge and resources they need, we are fostering a culture of vigilance and support that is essential for the development and well-being of our students.”

The training visit covered a range of topics, including recognizing indicators of abuse, navigating reporting protocols, and fostering a trauma-informed approach to student care. Participants engaged in discussions and scenario-based exercises, helping them to better understand their role in promoting student welfare.
