SNILD OKs re-appointment of Palacios to Cannabis Commission
The Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation has confirmed the re-appointment of Jose Borja Palacios to serve on the CNMI Cannabis Commission board.
All 18 SNILD members present at a session last Thursday adopted the SNILD Judiciary and Governmental Operations Committee’s report that recommends the confirmation of Palacios.
Palacios, who will represent Saipan and Northern Islands on the Cannabis Commission board, will serve a four-year term which will expire on Sept. 11, 2027.
Before confirming Palacios, Christine Fitial, communication specialist under the Office of the Governor, extended the administration’s appreciation and gratitude to acting SNILD chairman Rep. Roman Benavente (Ind-Saipan), as well as to SNILD Judiciary and Governmental Operations Committee chaired by Senate President Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan) and members for the time and effort they’ve all put into reviewing and examining the nominee.
“The administration asks for your favorable consideration. Your untiring effort on entertaining the nominee is just a step forward as the administration completes the vacancies for all boards and commissions,” Fitial said.
After the confirmation, Jose Palacios took oath of office before Gov. Arnold I. Palacios in the governor’s conference room.
Jose Palacios is a distant uncle to Gov. Palacios.
In re-appointing Jose Palacios last September, Gov. Palacios said he and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang are confident that the nominee will devote his time and efforts to carry out the regulatory mandates of the Cannabis Commission for the successful implementation and enforcement of the Taulamwarr Sensible Cannabis Act of 2018.
