San Nicolas announces bid for re-election

With election season just around the corner, more and more incumbent CNMI leaders are announcing their plans to either run for re-election, run for a new position, or sit this election out. Most recently, Rep. Patrick Hofschneider San Nicolas (R-Tinian) has announced his bid for re-election.

Last Monday, San Nicolas officially announced his decision to seek re-election for a third term in the CNMI House of Representative representing the island of Tinian under the CNMI Republican Party banner.

San Nicolas, who has served as Tinian’s lone representative since 2021, brings a wealth of experience from his background in law enforcement and business.

His career spans roles as a police officer at the Department of Public Safety and as an investigator, then commissioner at the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission.

Additionally, he has demonstrated executive leadership as a key figure at SN5, Inc., a local company founded by his father, the late mayor Jose Pangelinan San Nicolas, which was engaged in inter-island shipping, construction, and the sale of petroleum products, bottled water, and groceries.

Reflecting on his service, San Nicolas said, “I am deeply grateful to the people of Tinian for their votes of confidence in 2020 and 2022. Your support has been the driving force behind my work in addressing the fiscal needs of our residents and the broader Commonwealth. I seek your support now in 2024 to continue moving Tinian forward.”

San Nicolas will emphasize economic diversification and support for the tourism industry in the wake of the impending closure of the Hyatt Regency, Saipan’s flagship hotel.

“With the closure of the Hyatt Regency, it is more important than ever to contribute to the diversification of our economy while providing much-needed relief to our tourism sector,” San Nicolas stated.

“I am committed to working alongside Sen. Karl King Nabors and the leadership of Tinian to develop sustainable economic strategies that benefit our community,” he added.

San Nicolas invites all residents of Tinian and the CNMI to join him in this effort.

“Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient future for Tinian and the Commonwealth,” he said.

San Nicolas is the son of former mayor Jose Pangelinan San Nicolas and Guillermina Villagomez Hofschneider-San Nicolas.
