Schools called to join #WorldMileChallenge
All CNMI schools and the public are encouraged to join the #WorldMileChallenge that started last May 1 and will end on May 19.
Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. is encouraging everyone to join this year’s challenge. He said there are currently 51 Run Saipan members that signed up, while there are a total of 119 runners currently registered.
The minimum is one mile but participants can log in as many as they can. The current run mileage registered so far is 1,109.
“My biggest call is if we can get the schools involved with the world mile challenge. Saipan International School has already run as a school [last] week. I hope we can get public schools to join in,” said Dela Cruz.
In addition, Dela Cruz said, “We have runners of the CNMI running that are living abroad whether in college, relocated or serving in the military. We got participants from South Korea, Arizona, North Carolina, Florida, California, and hopefully more states when they respond to my call.”
Dela Cruz said, “As the only road running club on island we are taking the lead with Northern Marianas Athletics to get as many participants and mileage as possible to meet World Athletics’ goal to celebrate Kids Athletics Day and get more people to go out and move whether it’s running, jogging, or walking.”
