Schoolteacher authors children’s book on environmental stewardship
Rosemarie D. Embile, an educator with over a decade of teaching experience who loves writing, is excited to announce the release of her debut children’s book, “Saving Billy: A Quest for Clean Seas and Happy Turtles.”
Drawing from her extensive teaching career and experiences as a teacher on Saipan, Embile has crafted a story that is not just informative but also engaging for young readers. Her book, inspired by the beauty of the island and the curiosity of her students, is a powerful tool for environmental education and a captivating read for children who are eager to understand and preserve the oceans and islands.
The title “Saving Billy” was named after the hawksbill sea turtle, an endangered species in CNMI that plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of coral reefs. The story follows the adventures of Kai and Maya as they discover the importance of working together to protect their island and its sea animals from pollution. Through their journey, children are introduced to caring for the environment, particularly the oceans and islands vital to our planet’s health. The book includes “Reflect and Respond” exercises, a “Classroom 101” on recycling, Trivia on oceans, islands, and sea turtles, and most importantly, “Practical Ways for Children to Help Preserve the Ocean” by empowering them to make a difference.
“Teaching children about the environment and conservation is more important now than ever,” said Embile. “With ‘Saving Billy,’ I hope to inspire young minds to protect our beautiful oceans and islands. If we can teach kids to care about these issues early on, we can help shape a future where sustainability is second nature.”
“Saving Billy: A Quest for Clean Seas and Happy Turtles” is now available on Amazon Kindle: https://www.amazon.com/Saving-Billy-Quest-Clean-Turtles.
Embile holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education and has over a decade of experience as a public school teacher in the Philippines. After her marriage, she continued teaching at Northern Marianas International School on Saipan. Apart from teaching, she loves writing and has authored her first children’s book, “Saving Billy: A Quest for Clean Seas and Happy Turtles,” which emphasizes the importance of caring for oceans and islands. She believes teaching children about caring for the island early on can help them develop sustainable habits and a sense of environmental responsibility.
