Terry’s Snack Bar in CK now open on Saturdays
In an ever-advancing world, things change quick, but some don’t, like the recipes at Terry’s Snack Bar, aka “Bolis” in Chalan Kanoa, which continues to produce the classic empanadas, donuts, and kelaguen that taste the same way our mothers and grandmothers remember.
This time, though, the snack bar has upgraded their storefront and, after a couple months of renovation, announced that they will now also be open on Saturdays.
Snack bar owner Theresita “Bolis” Pertudo, whom everyone calls Terry, told Saipan Tribune that they are usually open only on weekdays, from 6am to 4pm. Recently, though, she wanted to try opening on Saturdays as well, and so beginning 6:30am last Saturday, the snack bar was open and served until 2pm.
Pertudo, who prefers to be referred to as Bolis, recounts that she began Terry’s Snack Bar alongside her late first husband, Herman “Bolis” Pangelinan, and father-in-law Jose Masga Dela Cruz, and they would serve the favorite snacks of kids. Since then, over 40 years have passed, and she is now serving the children and grandchildren of her once-young customers.
After countless struggles, and even when the business had to close due to damage from typhoons, the business presses on, and Bolis said she wants to continue serving people with the same classic recipes they remember.
Bolis added that some of her long-time customers who are no longer able to go to the store would still send their children to buy snacks, and they could tell if they were eating her goods or another person’s.
“They really know the taste,” she said.
The snack bar is known for their empanadas, donuts, chicken kelaguen, and other snacks (all ranging from $1 to $3), but they also sell hot lunches and soups. So if you want a blast from the past, an affordable snack, or just a friendly conversation with Aunty Terry while snacking, check out Terry’s Snack Bar across the William S.
