Top seed Asahi clubs Peliliu, 16-5

Top seed Asahi clubbed Peliliu, 16-5, and retained the No. 1 spot with 14 wins in the 2024 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association master’s division last May 19 at the Dandan Softball Field.

While Asahi had an easy time scoring runs, Peliliu scrambled hard for their only five runs of the game. Two came in the first inning off of runs scored by John Terlaje and Mark Flores, then the last three came in the third inning.

Meanwhile, Asahi didn’t want to let go of their bats in the second inning as they drove in run after run. They scored one in the first from Sup Matsutaro, then scored seven in the second.

By the time the inning was over, they had an 8-2 lead. Asahi wasn’t done as they scored five more in the third, including a solo round-tripper by Taylor Germance. Then, RBI singles from the bottom of the lineup ensured they didn’t strand anyone on base.

After Peliliu’s three runs in the third, they went mum in the fourth and fifth, while Asahi scored their final three runs, for a 16-5 game.

After, No. 2 seed Man Amigos lost to Sufa, 7-12.

Sufa brought out the big bats early and had an 8-3 lead at the end of the third inning.

Sufa scored three in the second, then Audie Maratita cleared the bases with a three-run dinger in the third. Calvani Deleon Guerrero soon followed suit and cleared the bases again with a two-run shot.

After Man Amigos’ Peter Sablan’s solo homer in the third, they went quiet in the fourth and fifth inning. On the other hand, Sufa continued to add to the scoreboard as they scored one in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two more in the sixth from a homer by Paul Salalila.

Before Man Amigos could score, they were down, 12-3. Only four more runs would score for Man Amigos in the sixth inning from a grand slam by Manny Sablan, but it was too late to catch up as they failed to produce in the last inning.

Tokahao then overpowered Saipal, 15-3;

The only three runs by Saipal were scored by Ray Renguul in the first, Barnard Kileleman in the fourth, and Ben Higgins in the fifth. Besides those runs, Tokahao’s pitching was untouchable.

Offensively, Tokahao was also on the other spectrum as they clubbed nine runs in the first. Pitcher Jojo Attao helped his cause and hit a homer in the second, followed by another run by Alvin Takai for a 11-1 lead.

Three more runs would score for Tokahao in the third, followed by one final run in the fourth. The game ended early as Saipal failed to score.

Tuturamz then beat the Redmen, 15-4.

The Redmen kept their runs to a minimum as they scored one in the second and third, then two in the fourth. But Tuturamz had other plans and had a blast in the third as they scored nine runs.

At this point, they were up, 11-1. They then scored two in the fourth and two in the fifth, while the Redmen scrambled up just two more runs for a 15-4 final.

Lastly, Hagu La’mun bid Wazzup adieu, 10-3.

Hagu La’mun’s runs were scattered throughout the innings, while Wazzup’s short spurt of runs all came in the fifth. With their three runs, it was a 3-7 game.

Then, Hagu La’mun went on to score one more in the fifth and two in the sixth as Wazzup conceded when they couldn’t score in the last inning.

In the standings, Asahi leads with a 14-2 record; Man Amigos and Hagu La’mun are tied at 12-4; Sufa is at 11-5; Tokahao broke even at 8-8; Peliliu and Wazzup are at 7-9; Redmen and Tuturamz are 4-12; and Saipal have only won one game for a 1-15 record.

Last Sunday, games were postponed due to the unavailability of the field.
