Training on FAFSA changes conducted for FAS financial aid and business office staff

Palau Community College successfully hosted the Pacific Financial Aid Association training session led by PacFAA former president Jeff Anderson for the Freely Associated States financial aid and business office staff at Palau Community College Assembly Hall last Aug. 31.

PacFAA is a non-profit organization that provides support to financial aid administrators and other agencies involved in the administration of financial aid programs in postsecondary educational institutions across the Pacific. Attendees included financial aid and business office staff from College of Micronesia-FSM, the College of the Marshall Islands, and Palau Community College.

The session focused on several critical areas, including the updated Pell Grant awarding process, Federal Work Study, and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant guidelines and application process. The training session also fostered a collaborative environment, allowing participants to share experiences and best practices with their peers. This exchange of ideas was instrumental in addressing common challenges and exploring solutions to better support students with the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid application process.

At the end of the training, it became evident that future similar trainings/collaboration focused on the Freely Associated States/Pacific Islands would be very beneficial in ensuring best practices and compliance with Title IV aid administration during this transition period. At the end of the day, what we do will ultimately benefit the students who depend on financial assistance in pursuing their higher education goals. PCC said it thanks Anderson and PacFAA for his insight, commitment and assistance. (PR)
