Treating kidney stones locally at CHCC

The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. is delighted to announce the arrival of a state-of-the-art lithotripsy machine, significantly expanding its urologic services and enhancing the quality of healthcare services for the CNMI community. This cutting-edge equipment will be instrumental in the treatment of kidney stones, offering a non-invasive and highly effective solution to a common and often painful medical condition.

“We are incredibly excited to introduce lithotripsy to our community,” said Dr. Brian Citro, surgeon at CHCC. “This technology allows us to effectively fragment kidney stones using soundwaves, eliminating the need for traditional surgery. This translates to shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times, and less pain for our patients.”

Kidney stones are a common medical condition, affecting millions of Americans each year. Previously, CHCC patients requiring treatment for kidney stones often faced the prospect of traveling outside of the CNMI for care. The arrival of the lithotripsy machine at CHCC eliminates this need, providing patients with convenient access to advanced treatment right here at home.

The acquisition of the lithotripsy machine is part of a broader strategy to modernize CHCC’s medical infrastructure and ensure that the residents of the CNMI have access to the latest healthcare innovations. By providing advanced medical treatments locally, CHCC aims to enhance patient satisfaction, improve health outcomes, and reduce the financial burden on patients who previously had to seek treatment off-island.

“This lithotripsy machine is transformative for our healthcare services,” said Esther Muña, CEO of CHCC. “We are committed to investing in advanced medical technologies to provide our community with the best healthcare possible.”

CHCC remains dedicated to its mission of delivering exceptional healthcare services and promoting the health and wellbeing of the community. The introduction of the new lithotripsy machine marks a significant milestone in this journey, paving the way further for advancements and improvements in the future.

This acquisition was made possible by the U.S, Department of Interior, Office of Insular Affairs, from Capital Improvement Project funds through the CNMI Office of the Governor. (PR)
