Undefeated Braves, Phillies lead NSA baseball league
The Braves in the Major League and Phillies of the Junior League currently lead the Natibu Sports Association Youth Baseball League played at the Capitol Hill Softball Field.
The Braves’ undefeated streak of five straight wins comes after they beat Ol’Aces, 17-1, last Saturday, while the Phillies nabbed their fourth straight win when they defeated Comets Jr., 15-5, last Sunday.
In the Braves’ game against Ol’Aces, their pitching staff almost came away with a shutout until a run was scored by Ol’Aces in the third inning.
That was the only blunder though as pitcher Dayton Marchadesch brought his heaters and registered nine strikeouts. Marchadesch’s offense was also on fire after a three-run first inning from the top of the lineup. Marchadesch scored the first run, followed by Dylan Barcinas and Elijah Babauta.
Two runs would score in the second for a 5-0 Braves lead, then the floodgates opened in the third as they scored 12 runs. In the end, Ol’Aces’ lone run was a tiny prick in the Braves’ 17-1 win.
Last Sunday, the Phillies remained undefeated as they scored 10 more runs against Comets Jr., 15-5.
The Comets struck first as they scored four in the first inning, but the Phillies’ offense was a floodgate just waiting to burst open.
It didn’t take long as the Comets held onto the lead only until the second inning when the Phillies scored four to tie it up, 5-5.
From there, the Phillies racked up four runs in the third and fourth. In the last inning, they added three more for a 15-5 game.
The Phillies’ Jequinn Lizama reached base safely in all three plate appearances and scored two runs, while Jesus Santos scored two runs as well after getting on base twice.
In other results last Saturday, the Comets blasted the Pirates, 24-9, and Lil’ Cubs clobbered the Cobras, 19-15. Last Sunday, Ol’Aces beat the Marlins, 11-1, and the Braves Jr. team defeated the Blue Jays Jr. team, 13-12.
In the standings after the Braves are Ol’Aces at 4-1; Comets and Lil’ Cubs are tied with 3-2; Marlins are at an even 2-2; Lil’ Blue Jays are 1-2; and Cobras and Pirates have yet to win with four losses.
After the Phillies are Braves Jr. at 3-1; Blue Jays Jr. are 1-3; and Comets Jr. have zero wins and four losses.
