Undefeated Umangs 1 cruise to 4th straight win

Koblerville Elementary School Umangs 1 are still undefeated with four straight wins in the 2024-2025 IT&E Interscholastic Co-ed Elementary School Basketball League.

They crushed William S. Reyes Kingfishers 2, 35-14, last Saturday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

The Umangs pinched out a 10-6 first quarter after Dolores Okururu and Baylyn Mansfield put up twin 4 points, while James Defang netted two markers. KobES clearly had better footwork and ball handling skills which they continued to show off in the ensuing quarters.

The Kingfishers struggled to wriggle out of the Umangs defensive grasp and managed to score just 4 points total in the second and third quarter. Meanwhile, the Umangs continued to apply pressure on both ends and, led by Rebecca Alvarado and Mansfield, they were up, 25-8 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Kingfishers tried to soar above the crashing waves the Umangs created in the fourth quarter as they scored six points, but the Umangs went on to add to their total and win it by 21 points.

In the end, Mansfield had a game-high 8 points, while Alvarado scored 6, and Okururu and Andre Ray collected 4 each.

In other results that day, Garapan Elementary School Mallards 2 bested Saipan International School Geckos 1, 28-4; KobES 2 stumped GES 1, 24-6; GES 2 won their second game, 34-4, over Grace Christian Academy Eagles; SIS 1 came back to win their second game, 12-4 over San Vicente Elementary School Canaries 1, 12-4; SIS 2 won over SVES 2, 17-4; WSR 1 defeated Brilliant Star School, 26-3; Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School rammed Mount Carmel School Knights, 14-3; Oleai Elementary School Turtles took down WSR 1, 26-15; and Kagman Elementary School won over GES 1.
