WSR, KobES to duke it out in soccer finals

It’s a battle of the southside as William S. Reyes Elementary School Kingfishers and Koblerville Elementary School Umangs have made it to the finals of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Elementary School Soccer League 2023-2024.

WSR, made up of some of its players from the 2022 championship team, slipped past a strong Garapan Elementary School squad, 2-1, on Monday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

GES couldn’t find the net until the 39th minute from a goal by Jacob Bojra, but by then, WSR had already scored their two goals. Salman Kamal scored both goals to punch the Kingfishers’ ticket to the finals.

The Umangs, on the other hand, overpowered San Vicente Elementary School 2, 8-0.

KobES had everything going right for them as their defensive plays and offense were top notch. Unmatched in the first half, Dean Aldan scored a goal, while Alexander Aveira scored two for a 3-0 lead.

The Canaries have yet to take off in the game and could not find gaps in the Umangs’ plays. Before they could even think about getting on the board, the Umangs’ Uwi Castro made it 4-0 in the 21st minute.

Castro’s cleats found some rubber again 10 minutes later for a 5-0 lead. Immediately after, Liam Palacios gained possession and made it 6-0. Castro then completed the hat-trick in the 34th minute and the last goal was made by Aldan five minutes later.

Today, the third place match between GES and SVES 2 is set for 4pm followed by the championship game at 5:30pm.
