‘We Will Never Forget: Field of Heroes Month’ ceremony postponed anew

Due to inclement weather conditions, the “We Will Never Forget: Field of Heroes Month” 9/11 commemoration ceremonies on Saipan and Tinian have been postponed again.

According to Tan Holdings Community Relations vice president Catherine Attao-Toves, the displayed U.S. flags throughout the CNMI were temporarily taken out prior to the Tropical Storm advisory.

“As you are aware, we had to temporarily retire our flags prior to the tropical storm advisory. With the soft ground, we hope that the weather will start to ease up so the flags can be reposted. On behalf of Tan Holdings, the Tan Sui Lin Foundation, and committee members, we are thankful for your patience, as we weather this monsoon and additional forecasted showers,” said Attao-Toves.

She added that in hopes for the ground and weather conditions to improve, the commemoration ceremony will be moved on Sept. 24.

“We hope to see you all on this day in RED event shirts—the R is for Remember, E stands for Everyone, and D is for Deployed. Red is the color theme for this year’s event.

Meanwhile, Rota will proceed with their commemoration ceremony tomorrow, while there is no advice for the Tinian schedule.

It was last Aug. 26 when Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang proclaimed September as “We Will Never Forget of Heroes Month.” The proclamation marks the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

According to Attao-Toves, there will be no changes to the activities scheduled on Sept. 24. As part of the “We Will Never Forget: Field of Heroes Month.” U.S. flags throughout the CNMI will be displayed at various parks to honor the lives lost and the heroic actions taken by first responders, veterans, and medical personnel.

The community is still encouraged to join the “We Will Never Forget” ceremony on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. It was also during the proclamation when Department of Corrections’ Lynnae Yobec read the “We Will Never Forget: Field of Heroes Month” proclamation, highlighting the significance of the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. She emphasized the profound impact of 9/11 on the nation and the resilience shown by its citizens in the face of tragedy. She explained that the resolution commemorates the lives lost during the attacks and the ongoing support for the families affected by the tragedy.
