All Blue, Island Star remain on top

All Blue and Island Star are still ahead in their respective divisions after posting contrasting results in last Sunday’s games in the 2019 Spring Men’s M-League at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

All Blue settled for a draw in its match versus Paire, 1-1, to keep the top spot in Division A. Joshua Mendez put All Blue on the board early with his goal in the sixth minute, while Danny Agulto tied the game for Paire in the 65th minute.

In Division B, Island Star kept its undefeated record and the No.1 spot in the team standings after nosing out the CNMI Women’s National Team, 3-2.

Jun Liu drilled the go-ahead in the 75th minute, while Wei Ping Chen and Xio Feng Lin delivered the two other goals for Island Star. Feng handed Island Star its first goal in the 10th minute, while Chen made it a 2-0 advantage in the 37th.

A goal from Jeralyn Castillo in the 39th minute moved the WNT within one at the break, while Jannah Casarino hit the equalizer three minutes into the second half before Liu saved the day for Island Star late in the game.

Island Star notched its fourth victory in as many games, while the WNT is still winless in four matches.

In other results in Division B, Kanoa Football Club bagged a pair of wins to jump to second place in the standings.

Kanoa first routed the WNT, 9-0, last Oct. 24, and then eased past Shirley’s last weekend, 6-2.

Markus Toves starred in Kanoa’s triumph over Shirley’s after gaining four goals. The youth player scored in the 17th, 48th, 57th, and 67th minute, while Andruw Omelau and Raymond Zapanta tallied the two other goals for Matansa in the 34th and 63rd, respectively.

Lalaine Pagarao gave Shirley’s its first goal in the 18th minute, while Hoin Ryu nailed the other one in the 38th.

Versus the WNT, Omelau delivered a hat trick for Kanoa, while Toves added two, and Jacob Montes, Ruselle Zapanta, Davy Laxa, and JC Piring chipped in one each.
