Almost 8K households register for NAP disaster aid

A total of 7,938 households sought help from the disaster assistance program of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs’ Nutritional Assistance Program.

NAP director Walter Macaranas this total was posted after registration ended yesterday at 8pm.

Macaranas told Saipan Tribune that the schedule for those who were able to register will be announced in the coming days.

After the deadline yesterday, NAP will no longer accept applications.

NAP originally set the issuance of disaster and supplemental food stamps to run only from Aug. 21 to 26. However, they were able to receive approval from the Food and Nutrition Service for an extension to process registered applicants. The extension will end on Aug. 31.

Today, those who are already registered and have numbers D2301 to D3100 will be accommodated. Tomorrow, those who are holding D3101 to D3900 will be served.

As of Tuesday, NAP was able to issue benefits to 3,878 households. Under the Disaster Program, 2,787 households were given benefits while 1,091 were issued under the Supplemental Program.

Twenty-nine households have been denied due to excess income/resources for those who hold TCDs, savings bonds, cash on hand, savings and/or checking that are $2,000 and beyond for all households and $3,000 for households with at least one member aged 55 years or older.

NAP Coupons and Disaster Coupons issued beginning Aug. 20, 2015, will expire on Sept. 30, 2015.
