Police arrested last night former Department of Public Safety deputy commissioner Ambrosio T. Ogumoro for corruption charges, Saipan Tribune learned.
“Yes, Ambrosio is in jail,” a lawyer confirmed but refused to elaborate.
Multiple sources disclosed that the arrest of Ogumoro was a result of an investigation conducted by the Office of the Public Auditor.
Sources said OPA then referred the case to the Office of the Attorney General’s Investigation Unit.
Sources said the charges are theft of government property for personal benefit.
The charges stemmed from Ogumoro’s alleged illegal use of DPS property such as computer or laptop when he served as deputy commissioner or acting commissioner at DPS.
Sources refused to disclose more details, saying the investigation is ongoing.
Ogumoro is expected to be taken to Superior Court for his initial court appearance today, Tuesday.
Ogumoro has a pending criminal case after OPA charged him with 15 criminal offenses for his role in, among other things, shielding then-attorney general Edward Buckingham from being served with penal summons in August 2012.
Ogumoro has filed a petition asking the CNMI Supreme Court to restrain Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman from presiding over his criminal case.
Ogumoro, through counsel Edward C. Arriola, argued that Wiseman’s decision not to dismiss the case for lack of jurisdiction is erroneous because there is neither a rational nor substantial legal argument to deny the CNMI Supreme Court’s order.
In March 2013, as soon as he arrived at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport from an official trip to inspect rescue boats in Canada, then-DPS deputy commissioner Ogumoro was handed a termination letter and was subsequently placed under house arrest in connection with shielding Buckingham.
Good!! Now what about the others? Lets see just how well the “new” AG office handles this and other cases that looks like will be upcoming regarding Fitial’s “Carolinian Mafia”.
I can’t wait to see any investigative results in this Saipan Casino deal.
With the known past experiences with this guy and his brother, I am still curious as to what kind of military discharge these guys had. Other people usually mention their military accomplishments as a part of their justification for their Govt. job.

Obviously you don’t know who is this guy Captain, because if you combine his life experiences, he has the equivalent of a doctorate degree. You would be surprise that the Captain know more about the CNMI than you and I combine. This guy has been around. You should take his comments by heart, because he is a straight up person, he speaks of the truth and nothing but the truth. The “Carolinian Mafia” was coined during Fitial’s impeachment process and the Captain may be referring to that point in time. Be nice chelu.
He retired as a master gunnery Sargent in the Marines (e-9 the second highest rank in enlistment) have some RESPECT! He serve 20 some years and receive so many honors and recognition in both the marines & CNMI.. I hope the full disclosure of this case comes to light and you’ll all see how this commissioner, this journalist, you commenters like “captain” are slandering a good person..

I came out during early Vietnam war as Captain with two oak leaf clusters on a purple heart plus disability.among many other citations.
So what? I (and so many other Vets) have not been involved with all of this type of criminal activities as this guy (and his brother to a lesser degree)
Have you ever seen Ambrose DD214 to verify what he professes.
BTW E9 IS the highest marine enlisted rank but under three classification, MGySgt. (Master Gunnery Sgt) A person with superior occupational proficiency.
SgtMaj (Sargent Major) Serves at the senior advisor at Battalion level.
Sgt Maj MC (Sgt Major Marine Corps) This position is selected by the Commandant of the Marine Corps to serve as his/her advisor.
Ambrosio has desecrated any of his questionable past service by all of his illegal criminal and questionable actions over the years and has shown no leadership or respect for laws etc.
Why should he be respected as this also brings his past service into question if he actually did serve with honor along with actually being retired and holds an honorable discharge at his early age.
He has not shown ANY occupational proficiency, even as a range master was involved with illegal activity.(along with his brother)
HE has slandered all of the NMI people with his actions and brought shame on the US marine Corps due to his total disregard for the people and the law.
You can take that to the bank son.
Ambrose, it’s your right to fight the system if you have a impenetrable defense…if not settle and live To fight another day….it’s better to be smart core than hard core….
