Armatech bagged its sixth win in as many games to fortify its hold to the top spot in the six-team division, while IT&E had its four-game winning streak snapped as the squad dropped to a 4-3 record.
A strong finish helped Armatech put an end to IT&E’s winning run, as the former turned on the heat near the midway part of the second half en route to the 14-point victory. After the opposing teams tied for the last time at 32-all, 13:34 left on the clock, Armatech went on a 14-3 spurt to open a double-digit spread, 46-35, with 7:46 remaining in the match
Jeralyn Castillo and Chevy Kate Alipio teamed up in the breakaway, scoring 5 points each. Irish Pagarao and Joana Palero added 2 points each, as Armatech gained full control of the match after falling behind in the first half, 24-26, and facing a 5-point deficit early in the second half.
A Chech Sablan triple from the right key brought Armatech’s lead down to single digit, 46-38, but she failed to spark IT&E’s rally and instead Armatech went on a short 6-0 run to take the game away for good.
Pagarao top-scored for Armatech with her 21 points, while Castillo and Alipio also finished in twin digits with their 14 and 13 markers respective.
Madeleine Alegre had 10 points and was the lone double figure scorer for IT&E, which missed the services of the sweet-shooting Jan Travilla. Sablan, Karlene Reyes, and Kyle Ito chipped in 7 apiece.
Meanwhile, Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan recovered from back-to-back losses with a 43-20 rout of Sun Palace.
Jahnelle Francisco had 12 points in Fiesta’s victory, the team’s fourth in eight games and it came after it fell to Shirley’s Coffee Shop last Tuesday and IT&E last Friday. Sun Palace remained winless in six games.
Fiesta took an early double-digit lead, 23-10, and never looked back from thereon.
