The Northern Mariana Islands Football Association will be hosting back-to-back exhibition games beginning this Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
First up is the NMI Men’s U19 National Team and Men’s All-Star tiff set for Jan. 23 at 4:30pm, while the other exhibition match featuring the NMI Women’s U18 National Team and the Women’s All-Star will be played on Jan. 24 at 6:30pm.
The official roster for the NMI Men’s U19 National Team hasn’t been announced, but expected to hit the pitch in this weekend’s match are the core of the squad that ruled the MSL Cup in the Marianas Soccer League Fall Season 2021. The NMI Boys U18 National Team topped the year-ending competition after nosing out TanHoldings Football Club in a penalty shootout, 4-3.
For this Sunday’s exhibition game, the NMI Men’s U19 National Team will be coached by Jershwin Angeles, while Martin Jambor will be the team manager. The squad will face the Men’s All-Star, which will be coached by NMIFA technical director Michiteru Mita and will have players coming from the various teams that competed in the MSL Cup.
In the women’s exhibition game on Monday, the NMI Women’s U18 will be managed by Angie Ito, while her counterpart on the Women’s All-Star is Kelsey McClellan. The NMI Women’s U18’s roster is expected to feature players who saw action in the Hafa Adai Cup of the Marianas Soccer League Fall Season 2021, while the Women’s All-Star crew are made up of players in the Intermediate and Premier divisions of the Dove Women’s Fall League 2021 and some former national team members.
Each exhibition match will be played in two 45-minute halves. The games are organized to support the two NMI teams’ preparations for training camp and matches in Guam next month.
